TO VOLUNTEER…
In response to our community’s urgent need during this crisis, many people from within our own church body as well as from all around the country are asking: What can I do? Whether you are one of the CHCC church body or a member of the community or from out-of-state, you are encouraged to serve alongside us with the distribution or construction efforts. College Heights Christian Church is responding in two major areas:

   (1) running a major Distribution Center and warehouse, and

   (2) organizing a Volunteer Marketplace where we connect the storm victims with volunteer skilled laborers.

Distribution Center
We are a running a major distribution center in Joplin for those hit by the storm. It runs from 9 AM-7 PM, Monday through Saturday (but will be open this Sunday, June 12). The work involves receiving, sorting, and distributing non-perishable food, paper goods, and toiletries. We will not be distributing clothing. Jobs range from light to heavy work and may include everything from carrying boxes, sorting items, serving as a personal shopping assistant, fixing food for volunteers, etc.

In order to get help where it is truly needed, we are asking you to register with us so that we can plan for the numbers needed, avoid as much chaos as possible, and make this a well-oiled machine. We do request that you carefully consider when you are able to contribute your time and then honor your commitment.

After registering online, all volunteers can simply show up at the appropriate time at our facility (4311 East Newman Road, Joplin).

Parking lot attendants will direct you to the appropriate areas to park and enter the building.

You will be asked to register on-site before being assigned a task.

For simplicity, we have broken the day into three shifts. However, the specific times are flexible. There is no problem if you need to come an hour late or leave an hour early; just sign up with the understanding these represent approximate times. And feel free to sign up for both shifts to cover a whole day if you are so inclined.

We welcome you to sign up for multiple days/shifts, but ask you to carefully consider what is appropriate for you. We care very much about your well-being!

Only one person in a group needs to complete the online registration (Please avoid duplicate registrations). All individuals will need to sign in and register upon arrival on-site.

The only other thing we can say is THANK YOU! The response we have seen to this crisis is awe-inspiring! God bless you!

Volunteer Marketplace - Updated 6-6-11

Work crews sent out from CHCC to work with debris clean-up have come to their conclusion. (Over 8,000 individuals went out from this location in the first week.) Thank you for your unbelievable outpouring of love.

The new stage is moving toward construction and rebuilding. We are attempting to provide a "classifieds" of sorts to help match up volunteer construction workers and the families in need of rebuilding. In doing this, CHCC is creating an online volunteer marketplace.

Construction workers: If you are a volunteer with trade skills, we ask that you register and provide your contact information, skill sets, window of availability, and resources. We will forward the information you provide to the families who contact us for help. This does not mean that we will have a list of jobs for workers who show up at our building, but rather you will coordinate with the home owner for when the work can be done.

Storm survivors in need will work with the church and be directed to these volunteers personally to request this help.

Of course, all storm survivors who needs any type of labor can still contact the church at 417-624-6915 or storm@chcchurch.org, and the church will contact local volunteers.
